READING LIST FOR LAW AND HISTORY

Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 22

Deuteronomy 22 deals with how one should deal with his neighbor property (v. 1-4), animals (22.6-7), and violations in marriage (v. 13-30). The law was intended not only to punish the criminal but to show social concern for people and the things that they own. This is equated with loving your neigbor as yourself. If you do, you would not steal from your neighbor or commit adultery with his wife. The marriage relationsip is to be kept pure and the marriage bed undefiled.
