Today's Readings with personal comments, commentary links and other useful illustrations: 1 Kings 19

In 1Kings 19
Elijah had experienced the victory over the prophets of Baal but became afraid for his life when Jezebel told him that she would kill him. Elijah ran for his life. He wanted to die. An angel came to minister to him and gave him food. He traveled to Horeb for forty days and night where he spent the night in a cave, the Lord appeared to Elijah, through a great and powerful wind, earthquake, a fire and then through a gentle whisper. Elijah had the idea that he was the only one serving the Lord! God pointed out to him that he had seven thousand in Israel who did not serve or worship Baal!! God told Elijah to make Jehu king of Israel, Hazael king of Aram and anoint Elisha to suceed Elijah as prophet. Be careful of a mountain top experience, because there is a possibility of a fall!

Today's reading 2 Samuel 13
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 2Samuel 13

2Samuel 13
This is the tragic story of Tamar being raped by her step-brother, Amnon (v. 1-22). Absalom, Tamar's sister killed Amnon in revenge for what he did. This heartache and pain came ultimately from David's sin with Bathsheba. Sometimes we are not aware that the consequences of our sins have effect not only on the parties involved but it may affect families and friend and the whole community.
